I know, I know, you are super busy right now.

BUT… I also know that you want to get through the next few weeks without packing on any extra fat.

This time of year is like a minefield…holiday parties, visiting family, mall food, an abundance of treats at the office, gym apathy and the overwhelm of season. I call it the holiday fitness gauntlet.

And as you know, even when you miss only a couple weeks of training and mindful eating, it always feels like you’re starting over.

So here are 3 crucial tips to avoid the dreaded holiday fitness gauntlet.

1- DON'T LET GO! - Trust me, I get it. I know that you are going to have a few "bad" meals during the holidays. I am too. We all overindulge on occasion.

But I see it every holiday season. People let themselves go for the WHOLE month of December. You "let go" of your will-power to eat clean. And you "let go" of your will-power to carve out time to train your body.

You convince yourself you'll pick up the slack come the first of January.

BUT what usually happens is people put on a few pounds of fat and then maintain it the rest of the year. Repeat that a few years in a row and BAM!  You’re left wondering "how the heck can my bodyfat be this high"?

To avoid this fate you must understand will-power. What you may not realize is that will-power is not some magical force that you are either gifted with or not. You can’t just wish for it, Santa won’t be dropping it off in your stocking.

It is a deeply rooted part of your mindset and it MUST be nurtured, practiced and exercised just like your heart or your biceps.

There are numerous ways to do this but none more powerful than regularly reminding yourself of your all-important "WHY".  Remember, your why is the most powerful reason/s that your health and fitness take priority.

And it usually has bearing on the people in your life for which you are most grateful.

Revisit it often. Set an alarm if you have to.

This year, don't let go!

2- DON'T MISS WORKOUTS- I know there will be days when you just can’t get to the gym. It's OK, don't sweat it. But you need to maintain a little bit of discipline when it comes to training. Workouts are going to help you combat some of those bad meals, help you reduce stress, sleep better, and feel better.

So here is one of my favorite go-to workouts when I’m traveling or just can’t get to the gym. It’s a super simple workout that can be done anywhere and takes minimal time with minimal equipment. Even if you only did this twice per week for the rest of the month, you wouldn’t feel like you were completely starting over in January.

So put those training sessions into your schedule and DO NOT miss. Try this home workout and you'll be happy you did come January.

3- THE PRE-PARTY MEAL- This one has saved a lot of people over the years. It's easy, just have a small healthy meal and lots of water right before you head out to your next holiday party. You will get a boost of energy and also be much less likely to overindulge on party foods and sweets.

Fill up on quality food before you go out and you'll eat less crap.

Less crap = better abs.
